Statement on recent flooding from Bishop Richard

Published on: 24th October 2023

The Rt Revd Richard Jackson said: “In the wake of storm Babet we have once again seen the devastating impact of extreme weather on homes and businesses in our diocese.  My prayers are with all those who have been affected.

"Water levels continue to rise in the major rivers and tributaries with further bad weather forecast for later this week. This may well cause greater flood damage than we’ve seen so far, and we are keeping a close eye on the weather.

"Whilst we are not presently aware of our churches being flooded, the damage to the communities they serve has been awful. Once again the people of Herefordshire and South Shropshire have stepped in to help out those who have been affected. We see people drawing together providing practical and emotional support for neighbours in need.  I particularly hold in my prayers those people who have lost loved ones as a result of the floods.

"I also hold in my prayers all our farmers who have stepped in to help but who have also experienced damage to crops and land."
