Public consultation event on the future use of St Nicholas' Hereford

Published on: 19th December 2023

Hereford Diocese seeks to engage public opinion on the future of St Nicholas' Church on Barton Road, just off the A49 near the river Wye. It is an integral part of Hereford’s architectural landscape and is a much-loved building by many in the community. Following the completion of the first consultation phase earlier this year, the Church Parochial Council is working in partnership with Hereford Diocese to seek to engage the opinion of residents, historians and any other interested parties on the preferred way forward for the future of this building. It is proposed that the church will become a community music venue, run and managed by Encore Enterprises [formerly known as Hereford Music Service], whilst continuing to permit community activities, including access to ring the church bells.

All interested parties and individuals are encouraged to attend the public consultation event, which will be hosted by Hereford Diocese at 4 pm on Wednesday, 10 January 2024, at The Bishop’s Palace, Hereford. There will be an opportunity to view the proposed plans and address any concerns or questions regarding the proposed future use.  Please register via Eventbrite so we can manage the number of people attending.

If you are unable to attend the public meeting but still wish to register your views, please submit them in writing to Sarah Girling, Pastoral Secretary, Hereford Diocese.
