Get to know...Fiona Gibson

The next team member we meet in our two-minute interview is Fiona Gibson.

The Venerable Fiona Gibson has been Archdeacon of Ludlow since late April 2021. Alongside her statutory responsibilities as an archdeacon, which include church buildings, clergy recruitment, and clergy and parish support, she chairs the Hereford Diocesan Board of Education and focuses on mission and clergy wellbeing. She was elected to General Synod in the 2021 elections.

Fiona came to the Diocese of Hereford having been a curate and vicar in the Diocese of St Albans. She lives in Craven Arms, south Shropshire with her husband Dave. They have two young adult children.

I: Hello. Thanks for taking part in the 2-min interview. We’re going in with an good question. If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

FG: When I was pregnant with our first child, my husband and I planned to go to Venice (because we realised it wasn’t exactly a child-friendly holiday destination so we needed to go while we still could). We booked the holiday, got to Heathrow, and while we were there the airport was shut because of a fuelling problem. So we went home again! Perhaps we could try to get there again now our children are in their 20s?

I: Yes, you definitely should go to Venice with your husband! What is your favourite genre of book or film?
FG: If you come to my home you’ll see that books are a big feature of my life! Choosing only one genre is impossible… If you were to analyse the books on my shelves (outside my study) they probably fall largely into three categories: mysteries, history (non-fiction and fiction), and the outdoors. But basically I read very widely.

I: I am sure you’re the right person to recommend a book! What do you enjoy about working in Hereford Diocese?

FG: Besides having moved to one of the most beautiful places in the country? Being part of an experienced and committed diocesan staff team, and working with dedicated and faithful clergy and lay leaders in churches and schools, all committed to sharing Christ’s life in all its fullness.

I: I agree with you. We live in a beautiful place and the last question. What is your favourite book in the Bible?
FG: Oh dear, I’ve got the same problem here that I had with choosing just one genre of book! There are so many. Job, Psalms, Isaiah, John, Philippians, Hebrews – I can’t choose!

I: Thank you for sharing with us and being part of the 2minInterview.
