Advent and Christmas

First published on: 23rd October 2023

It's that time of year when worshipping communities across the diocese are starting to plan their Christmas events and services. The Church of England launched its 2023 Christmas campaign – Follow the Star: Join the Song.

The new resources for 2023 will work alongside material from previous years and will focus on Join the Song – highlights how singing can help draw us closer to God and each other through the journey from Advent to Epiphany. Composer Bob Chilcott has worked on a new interpretation of the beloved carol 'The First Nowell', which will be the centrepiece of this year’s focus on Follow The Star: Join The Song. You can hear the song and the different vocal parts on The Church of England YouTube channel.

What to do now

  1. Visit the Church of England’s website for details on the national branding, resources and more.
  2. Log-in to the Resources hub of for logos and other branding resources.
  3. Make a note to add your onsite and online Advent and Christmas services on, using an Advent or Christmas tag. There will also be ‘Join the Song’ features on the site to help you invite people to your church services more easily.
