Wednesday 13th October 202109:30SIAMS Strands 1 - 5 Session 1 of 2

SIAMS inspections will be resumed from the Autumn Term 2021and those schools who will be due to be inspected in this academic year will be contacted by the Diocesan Education Team.

This SIAMS Schedule for inspections has been in effect from September 2018. Rather than it merely being a revision of the previous framework, this schedule has a new focus on Christian Vision and related practice, and is closely aligned with the Church of England’s vision for Deeply Christian, Serving the Common Good.

This year’s SIAMS courses will benefit from sharing the experiences of schools who have already undergone the new SIAMS inspection prior to COVID-19.

Starting with Strand 1: Vision and Leadership, these two sessions will help schools/academies to interpret the requirement to have a vision “grounded in a clear theology and rooted in a Christian narrative”.  Participants will see what this looks like in practice and how Strands 2-5 link to their vision set out in Strand 1.

Terminology will be unpicked to help schools/academies understand the requirements.

This is an essential course for all schools/academies. These are the first two sessions of the four sessions within this complete course:  SIAMS The Effectiveness of Religious Education  and SIAMS The Impact of Collective Worship are also required to complete the course.

Cost: £40.00 per delegate for Partnership Schools and £60 for non-Partnership Schools

Thursday 14th October 202110:00Luke’s Gospel: A New Year in Preaching

Leominster Priory

This year’s lectionary gospel, Luke, shares much in common with the other ‘Synoptics’, Matthew and Mark, but has its distinctive contribution as well. Whilst apparently directed to a wider gentile audience, it still centres the gospel story on pious Jewish observance. It shares much of its shape with the other two gospels, but also includes unique teaching of Jesus, including many of our favourite parables and stories. And it has a distinct focus in issues of wealth and power and the role of women.

This study day will explore all these issues, looking at both broad themes and detailed texts, in order to help us read and preach Luke well in the coming year.

Revd Dr Ian Paul studied maths and worked in business prior to ordination training and completing a PhD on the Book of Revelation. Following a decade in parish ministry and nearly a decade in theological education, he has been working freelance since 2013. Amongst other things, he is a member of the Archbishops’ Council and Manager Editor of Grove Books Ltd.

13:00Developing and Energising your Pupil Led Worship

Many schools have their own pupils’ worship or ethos group often known as ‘Worship Crews’. This course will help you gain tips for resourcing your pupils to do this effectively, whilst learning from other schools and how they work with their pupils. The course will explore:

  • the different approaches to pupil ethos or worship groups
  • equipping pupils to leading worship both in class and for the whole school
  • pupil evaluation of worship
  • examples and ideas to try with your group to embed your church school vision.

All Dicoesan Education Team training events are curerntly being held online.
