Visitations Hereford Archdeaconry
EASTER VISITATIONS 2019
First, to all who have served as churchwardens during the year 2019-20: please accept my thanks, on behalf of the wider church community, for your hard work. This letter is particularly addressed to those who have been elected as churchwardens for the year 2019-20. I write to invite you to attend the annual Easter Visitation. One will be held in your deanery; if you are unable to attend, you are invited to choose a Visitation at another deanery instead.
Please come to whichever visitation is the most convenient. If you are not able to attend on your Deanery date, please come to one of the others. In particular this year, we are holding one afternoon, one Saturday morning and one early Sunday evening (as part of an act of worship) in addition to the usual four 7.30pm evenings, details below. Please let us know your choice immediately after your election/re-election.This will help with catering arrangements. If you cannot make any of the dates, please phone my office (01432 373316) to make special arrangements.
I aim to make the Visitation an enjoyable occasion, when we meet as colleagues in God’s work. We worship together, and we hear from colleagues in the diocese who can help us with various aspects of church life that concerns churchwardens.
Please note that it is a legal requirement that you must be admitted to office, which happens at the Visitation. Until this is done, you are not legally a churchwarden. This swearing-in must be done every year. If a candidate is not sworn-in before 31st July in any year, then there has to be a fresh election, this is the law.
With best wishes
Ven Derek Chedzey
Archdeacon of Hereford
