M & E consultants
The role of the M&E Consultant is to advise the Diocesan Advisory Committee (DAC) for the Care of Churches in the Diocese of Hereford in which there are over 400 Anglican churches primarily in Herefordshire and South Shropshire.
The DAC's role is to provide advice to parishes, and to the Chancellor and Archdeacons of the Diocese who give permission for work, in relation to church buildings, their contents and churchyards.
The Hereford DAC is experiencing an increase in requests for advice on heating of churches and although it has one consultant who is an expert in electrical heating it lacks expertise on oil and gas particularly alternative sources of energy.
The role of such consultants, who would be paid travelling expenses, would be to respond to requests from the DAC to:
a) Visit parishes to meet with church officers and / or their architect to discuss suitable, affordable, heating for the church;
b) Assess proposals submitted by parishes and their heating engineers for works for which permission is being sought.
The consultants would not give advice to parishes, but would give advice to the DAC in the form of a report of informal discussions, or formal advice reports on parishes' submissions. Any advice which is then issued is done so by the DAC and under its insurance.
