Thanking

Introduction

It’s far too easy to take people for granted; and we’re all guilty of it! The local church has many opportunities to thank people for the many different ways that they give. To give thanks is at the heart of our worship as Christians; ‘Eucharist’ literally translates as ‘thanksgiving’. To give thanks to God for all that he has given to us, and to then fail to thank each other for the ways in which generous living and giving makes a real difference, would be very strange indeed! Thanking people regularly within acts of worship, each year at the APCM gathering, through church and community social media pages, websites and magazines all makes a huge difference. Best of all, thank people personally; face to face; visiting all your church volunteers and givers each year can be both a rewarding and humbling experience (and it isn’t only the vicar who can visit other people!).

Top tip

Sending an annual letter of thanks to all he givers to your church is not only good practice - it’s good manners too! This is a quick and effective way of sharing the achievements of your local church during the past year, and making a direct connection to the difference generous giving really makes.
