Parish Giving Scheme

Introduction

The Parish Giving Scheme (PGS) is a 21st century solution to offset one of the greatest threats to parish income -- static giving. The scheme has attracted considerable interest from around the Church and has been adopted as the preferred way of giving by the National Stewardship Committee. It is a charitable company owned by participating dioceses.

It is anticipated that in the next few years more than half of dioceses within the Church of England will be using the Scheme. It could be processing annual donations of over £50 million, from around 70,000 donors, and claiming more than £10 million each year in Gift Aid. Donations made through the Scheme use the Direct Debit facility. Donations can be made on a monthly, quarterly or annual basis, and all donations are passed to the donor's chosen parish / PCC.

The Diocese of Hereford joined the Parish Giving Scheme in 2017. Our Parish Giving Advisers are working with all of our parishes/benefices across our Diocese, leading the way forward.

* New access arrangements for PGS Statement Receivers from 10 June 2020 *

New PGS website

The Parish Giving Scheme is launching a new website at www.parishgiving.org.uk and all existing PGS statement receivers in parishes across the Diocese of Hereford will receive an email during June containing step-by-step instructions on how to access this new site, activate their ‘My PGS’ account, and download their June 2020 online statement. (Statement receivers will be able to access statements from the old website for a short period of time only.)

In due course, the new website will also allow new and existing donors to set up or amend their own donation.  We will announce this when the new functionality goes live.

* New Telephone Service from 27 April 2020 *

We are delighted to announce that that the central PGS team has introduced a new facility to give potential supporters the option of setting up a regular donation by phone by calling 0333 002 1271 between 9am-5pm on weekdays. Alternatively, supporters can Register their interest and a member of the PGS team will call back within 5 working days.  A supporter wishing to make use of this service will need to have to hand their bank account details, church/parish name and PGS parish code (available from the PGS representative for the parish).  A supporter will be able to Gift Aid their donation, if eligible, and they will also be given the option to increase their giving annually, in line with inflation.  Please follow the link for further details about the PGS telephone service.

Top tip

It’s vital that local church leadership teams and PCCs are advocates for the Parish Giving Scheme, and have joined the Scheme, before asking others in the wider congregation to do so. Your Parish Giving Advisers will work with you and your PCC, presenting full details of the Scheme, with lots of opportunity to answer your questions and discuss any concerns. You’ll find a useful set of three ‘Frequently Asked Questions’ information sheets, at the Parish Giving Scheme website here: www.parishgivingscheme.org.uk/for-donors/faq
