Parish Giving Scheme
The Parish Giving Scheme (PGS) is a 21st century solution to offset one of the greatest threats to parish income -- static giving. The scheme has attracted considerable interest from around the Church and has been adopted as the preferred way of giving by the National Stewardship Committee. It is a charitable company owned by participating dioceses.
It is anticipated that in the next few years more than half of dioceses within the Church of England will be using the Scheme. It could be processing annual donations of over £50 million, from around 70,000 donors, and claiming more than £10 million each year in Gift Aid. Donations made through the Scheme use the Direct Debit facility. Donations can be made on a monthly, quarterly or annual basis, and all donations are passed to the donor's chosen parish / PCC.
The Diocese of Hereford joined the Parish Giving Scheme in 2017. Our Parish Giving Advisers are working with all of our parishes/benefices across our Diocese, leading the way forward.
It’s vital that local church leadership teams and PCCs are advocates for the Parish Giving Scheme, and have joined the Scheme, before asking others in the wider congregation to do so. Your Parish Giving Advisers will work with you and your PCC, presenting full details of the Scheme, with lots of opportunity to answer your questions and discuss any concerns. You’ll find a useful set of three ‘Frequently Asked Questions’ information sheets, at the Parish Giving Scheme website here: www.parishgivingscheme.org.uk/for-donors/faq
