Safeguarding Learning and Development - Training


Introduction

For many years every Church of England Diocese has been developing and delivering its own Safeguarding Training. Whilst there is nothing wrong in this; what has happened is there has been an inconsistent approach to content and delivery across the country. In order to improve, professionalise and standardise safeguarding learning and development, the National Safeguarding Team have developed a National Safeguarding Learning and Development Framework and a series of National Safeguarding Training Modules. The training modules have been developed through a robust process of consultation and an extensive period of piloting.

It is now the expectation of the National Safeguarding Team that all Dioceses carry out training in line with the new learning and development frame work and use the new National Safeguarding Training Modules.

C0 E Learning Package.   
Now available via the National Church of England website
For anyone who needs a basic level of awareness of safeguarding. This course will assist anyone prior to attendance at any other core training module. It can be accessed via this link or directly from the Church of England main website.

C1 Foundation
3 hours duration.

Refreshed every 3 years
For anyone who has contact with children, young people or vulnerable adults. Including but not limited to: PCC Members, Church Wardens, Parish/Benefice Safeguarding Reps, Ordinands, Spiritual Directors, Pastoral Visitors, Helpers at activities, Servers, Church Administrative staff
C2 Leadership
3 hours duration

Refreshed every 3 years
For anyone who has responsibility for leading an activity involving children, young people or vulnerable adults.

Including but not limited to: PCC Members, Church Wardens, Paid Youth and Children’s Workers, Directors of Music, Bell Tower Captains, Home Visitors, Ordinands.

C3 Foundation and Leadership
6 hours duration.
Refreshed every 3 years
For those holding a licence, commission, authorisation, permission to officiate from a Bishop – Both Ordained and Lay

Including incumbents, non- stipendiary ministers, chaplains, clergy with PTO, licensed /authorised lay ministers, Readers.

C4 Senior Staff 6 hours duration Delivered by the National Safeguarding Team Regionally Refreshed every 3 years. For Bishops and Senior Staff who have a role in safeguarding policy and practice. Also for Deans and Senior Cathedral Staff and TEI Principals and Safeguarding Leads.


Specialist Training Modules

The National Safeguarding Team are in the process of developing a series of Specialist Safeguarding Training Modules see below for details. We here at Hereford currently deliver our own version of specialist safeguarding training in relation to “Safer Recruitment” and “Working with offenders and people who may pose risk in worship".
