‘It’s Not Just Policy, It’s Personal’ Safeguarding Campaign

‘It’s Not Just Policy, It’s Personal’ safeguarding campaign launches across the Church of England

Churches across the country are being encouraged to take part in the Church of England’s national safeguarding campaign, It’s Not Just Policy, It’s Personal, running from 1–14 June 2026.

The campaign, developed by the National Safeguarding Team in response to recommendations from the 2024 Makin Report, aims to raise awareness of how to report safeguarding concerns and to help churches respond with confidence, clarity, and compassion.

At the heart of the campaign is the reminder that safeguarding is about people, not just procedures. Behind every safeguarding concern is a person who may have taken the difficult step of disclosing harm or risk.

A range of practical and flexible resources has been created to support parishes, including posters, information sheets, and guidance that can be used digitally, in print, or as part of local conversations and training.

Lisa Anderson, Hereford Diocese Safeguarding Officer, said: “I would warmly encourage parishes to take part where they can. Please have a look at what is available, consider how you can share and promote the campaign in your setting, and use this opportunity to strengthen safeguarding practice and awareness locally.”

The campaign materials are based on the Church of England’s Reporting Safeguarding Concerns & Allegations Code of Practice.
