  • New deacons include a scientist and a former retail manager

    A scientist and a former human resources manager at Marks and Spencer are among the six new deacons to be ordained by the Bishop of Ludlow, the Rt Revd Alistair Magowan at Hereford Cathedral this weekend.

    The two women and four men will join churches in Herefordshire and south Shropshire after the service on Sunday 1st July, where they will serve for three to four years. Read more

  • Pope Francis asks Bishop of Hereford to pray for him

    The Bishop of Hereford, the Rt Revd Richard Frith has met Pope Francis as part of a Hereford Cathedral Choir visit to sing at the Papal Mass for the Feast of St Peter & St Paul.

    Following the two-hour Mass, the choir, the Dean of Hereford Cathedral, The Very Revd Michael Tavinor and the Bishop of Hereford, The Rt Revd Richard Frith had a private meeting with Pope Francis in the gardens of the Vatican.

    Bishop Richard described meeting the Pope as ‘quite a moment, fantastic.’ He added: ‘The Pope said pray for me, don’t forget - which I thought was rather lovely.

  • Vicars star in new TV documentary series

    Four clergy in the Diocese of Hereford are the focus of a six-part factual series on BBC Two, A Vicar’s Life’, which starts on Friday 12th January at 8.30pm.

    The observational documentary follows three established vicars and a new curate over a six-month period as they minister at the heart of rural communities, christening babies, marrying couples and burying loved ones.

    Camera crews spent six months capturing the life and times of parishes stretching from the beautiful small market town of Much Wenlock in the north of the diocese, to Breinton and the west of Hereford and up into the Black Mountains. Read more
