A statement from The Rt Rev Bishop of Hereford Richard Frith on Universal Credit:
"I have heard first-hand the terrible experiences of people living in Hereford Diocese who have been affected by the changes introduced under Universal Credit. As Christians we are called to love one another and to care for the poor in our society. We are the most rural diocese in England and poverty is often hidden in plain sight.
It is important that we work together with other agencies, organisations and individuals to build compassionate communities that are fair and support those in need. The work of unions including Unite in Herefordshire, is a welcome addition to the ongoing outreach work of Churches and others in this area.”
