Ludford: St Giles, SY8 1PJ
Nestling on the edge of the Shropshire market town of Ludlow, and overlooking the picturesque River Teme, we are a small church with a big heart - welcoming, busy, comfortable and warm! With our five sister churches in the Ashfords Benefice we offer a range of styles of worship, often followed by social time and seasonal refreshments. Recent special services have included Celtic and Lutheran liturgy, Candlemas, and the agricultural year celebrations of Plough Sunday, Rogation and Lammas.
St. Giles' is fully accessible for those with restricted mobility, and caters for a range of physical and intellectual disabilities. Our church decorations for festivals have earned a reputation locally for being well worth a visit.
For details of forthcoming services and events in our Parish, see the One-off Events section in the Services & Events page.
This week's Benefice Pewsheet covers our sister churches as well.
Information about other events and activities that may be of interest are on the Other Events page.
Sunday morning services
We have a monthly programme of varying services. Normally Common Worship Eucharist alternates with lay-led Morning Prayer.
Eucharist/Communion services on the 2nd and 4th Sundays normally last around 1hr 15mins.
Morning Prayer on the 1st and 3rd Sundays normally does not exceed 1 hour.
Please see the One-off Event listings for details of what is happening on which dates.
When there is a fifth Sunday in the month, there is always an Ashfords Benefice service on that day, so there will not be a service at St. Giles unless we are hosting the benefice event.
A range of eight different marmalades, home-made by our Parish Treasurer Liz Woodall, will be on sale after Sunday services in February and March.
Choose from Classic, Lemon & Grapefruit, Lime, Oxford, Pink Grapefruit, Three-fruit, Traditional Scottish or Whisky Marmalade, at prices from £2 to £3.50 for small, medium or large pots.
Contact Liz through the Get in Touch page to reserve some if you will not be able to come on Sunday. We may be able to deliver in Ludford/Ludlow, but cannot despatch by post, etc.
More information on the sheet downloadable below.
Each Wednesday evening in Lent members of our congregation, and anyone else who would like to join us, will gather in the church for informal, unstructured prayers and contemplation. We will start with hot drinks and cake whilst exchanging news and flagging up particular prayer needs. This will be followed by prayer and quiet time for reflection to which anyone may contribute; Dr. Margaret Clark will provide some specific themes for the season.
Mid-week Holy Communion
Our simple celebration of Holy Communion on the first Thursday morning each month is much appreciated by those who are often unable to attend church on Sunday mornings. The services are said (i.e. no singing), and last roughly 40 minutes.
