COMMUNICATIONS includes responsibility for the website, Reflections, electronic mailings, monthly mailing to magazine editors, virtual Noticeboard, Events listing, broadcast services for BBC local radio, special projects etc. They send out Press releases on a range of issues, serious to fun and is the first call when a crisis looms, and can arrange media training and advise at personal, parish, deanery and diocesan level on Media matters.

Community Link Development Officer: acting as a coordinator and link throughout the diocese developing relationships with the many and various social action and welfare activities. Providing information and support to parishes to enable them more effectively to fully engage in care and support of the marginalised and vulnerable within their communities, in conjunction with partner organisations which may be ecumenical church partners, local authority partners as well as charitable/voluntary sector partners.

The officer supports the parishes in project development, particularly those which encourage the closer working of Church and community. This may involve improvement of facilities and services, and the wider use of church buildings. She helps to research and promote funding opportunities to help support these projects. Wendy represents the Diocese at a strategic level and within local partnerships, and speaks at national conferences. She advises on heritage projects, buildings repairs, and administers the Diocesan Partnership Fund. Her Assistant is Joanne Gibbon.

The DDVO oversees, on behalf of the Bishop, the identification and fostering of vocations and the discernment process leading to ordination. This includes administering the procedures for diocesan pre-assessment and national selection, guiding new ordinands into initial training, arranging curacies and facilitating the ordination retreats and services for new deacons and priests each year.

The role of the Local Ministry Officer is to prompt debate of local ministry within the Deaneries of the Diocese; recruit and support a diocese-wide team of trainers, consultants and mentors to stand alongside parishes as they plan their way into local ministry; and to change the culture so that all parishes see shared leadership as being the way to be God's church in the twenty-first century.

The Adviser is responsible to the Diocesan Bishop with a brief of support for the women clergy and accredited lay workers within the diocese. Regular contact is kept with both Bishops, the Archdeacon and the Diocesan Director of Ordinands. It is a mainly pastoral role.

The Warden of Readers promotes Reader ministry in the Diocese, and oversees their selection and training. He arranges for the admission and licensing of Readers, and for the granting of PTO and Emeritus status when appropriate. He ensures that Readers are deployed in the most effective way, and that pastoral care is adequately provided.

The aim is to build bridges of understanding between different races, cultures and faiths. The Interfaith Officer is available to give illustrated talks on other faiths, to lead discussions, to arrange visits to non-Christian places of worship and to meet the people who worship there

The SSM Advisers co-ordinate this network, encour-age members in their very varied work and, where appropriate, help them and their parishes plan the ministry they will offer. It is also important to promote a clear understanding of the wide-ranging roles of SSMs. SSMs are often in the forefront of the church's mission: they need - and value - the prayers and support of the parishes for their ministry both in the workplace and in the community.

The Continuing Ministerial Development (CMD) Officer, looks after the training and development of Clergy and Readers. This includes the programme of CMD conferences run through the year and CMD Local training events. He administers study leave provision and the annual CMD grant for licensed clergy. The role of the Lay Development Officer is to promote benefice mission development through mission action planning, and through offering support and training to lay people in their discipleship and ministries, working alongside parish clergy and local ministry development groups.

This Ecumenical Chaplaincy is a new and exciting ministry serving the rural community which is developing and growing over the next few years to cover a large proportion of the Diocese and Methodist District.
How? This ministry is of both Lay and Ordained people working together because they have found a calling to serve in their local communities in a number of different ways. Individuals trained and empowered to visit farms, markets and local events to share God's Love by active ministry through a team approach.

The Chaplaincy is staffed by part time chaplains, lay and ordained who visit the wards. Calls for a priest out of hours are directed to the patient's own parish priest. All wards and departments have a contact list. The Chapel is open during the day, and service times are listed on the notice board.

Chaplain for the deaf is an ever expanding role not helped by serious cuts in social services. The Deaf church meets once a month, at St Barnabas Church, on the third Sunday at 3pm. This service is signed in BSL and has an easy relaxed approach making it accessible for all.

The Finance Department is responsible for the day to day running of the finances of the Diocese, the preparation of the Annual Accounts and Budget, and monitoring all aspects of Diocesan Income and Expenditure, particularly Parish Share. In addition the department also deals with Clergy Moves and Car Loans, the Diocesan Parish Share Formula and Parochial Trust matters.
