PARTNERSHIP FOR WORLD MISSIONbased at Partnership House in London, brings together ten international mission agencies of the Church of England. These are :-CHURCH ARMY (international work) CHURCH’S MINISTRY AMONG JEWISH PEOPLE (CMJ) CHURCH MISSION SOCIETY (CMS) CROSSLINKS INTERCONTINENTAL CHURCH SOCIETY (ICS) THE MISSION TO SEAFARERS MOTHERS’ UNION (international work) SOUTH AMERICAN MISSION SOCIETY (SAMS) THE SOCIETY FOR PROMOTING CHRISTIAN KNOWLEDGE (SPCK) UNITED SOCIETY FOR THE PROPAGATION OF THE GOSPEL (USPG) The ten mission agencies of Partnership for World Mission are involved in various ways in enabling and promoting Christian ministry within the worldwide Anglican Communion. In particular, CMS and USPG work very widely with Anglican and united partners in provinces throughout the Communion, enabling exchange and education, sending (and receiving) missionaries or mission partners, and, through specific and general grants, supporting the Church in ministry and training, education and health work. They are also working to resource the church here in mission and in awareness of our membership of a wider Communion. Local churches can support this work by
PWM agencies also offer opportunities for mission service, and for ‘gap year’ and shorter overseas experience, and can be helpful in enabling parish links, and providing speakers and preachers, resource material etc. Crowther Hall (CMS) and the United College of the Ascension (USPG and the Methodist Church) in Birmingham provide education and training for mission service and for partners from overseas. They also provide opportunities to gain awareness of world mission issues such as relations with other faiths, the challenge of HIV and AIDS, poverty and debt, varieties of worship and the ways in which the Gospel can cross cultural boundaries. USPG has longstanding links within Hereford’s companion dioceses of Tanga, Masasi and Dar es Salaam, in Tanzania. In Tanga Diocese USPG supports Teule Hospital, Muheza, and the work there of Richard and Karilyn Collins; this is a project to which local churches can link (USPG needs to raise £32,000 for Teule in 2002), as are St Francis Hospital, Kwa Mkono, and Kwa Mkono Polio Hostel, in the same diocese. Other grants have been given recently to Masasi and Tanga Dioceses, for general use and also in support of the Nurses Training School at Muheza, and the Community of St Mary at Masasi. USPG also supports training and theological education within the Province of Tanzania, and in particular St Mark’s Theological College, Dar es Salaam. PWM agencies have played an important role in establishing and enabling diocesan companionship links, as a vital means towards understanding and partnership within the Communion. Alongside the development of such links, however, their own role continues to be important within the wider Communion - together they form the principal way in which the Church of England expresses its support for, and involvement in, the mission of Anglican Christians worldwide. Prayer requests from the PWM agencies are included in the centre pages of the Diocesan Prayer Diary each quarter. Local Contacts:
