HOW THE COUNCIL WORKS

At Diocesan Level
The Council regularly sponsors debates at Diocesan Synod. Recent subjects have included Mental Health, a Diocesan Age Policy and Migrant & Seasonal Workers.

The membership of the Council covers all parts of the Diocese and represents a wide variety of interests and expertise. It works ecumenically wherever possible.

Issues which can affect individual’s well-being, families and the cohesion of society are brought to an ecumenical CSR Working Group called OIKOS. This Group looks at any topic which can impact on society, including alcohol and drug abuse; domestic violence; mental health care; and family issues.

The SRO is responsible for coordinating two ecumenical Clergy Emergency Response Teams (CERTs) in the Diocese. One CERT covers south Shropshire and the other Herefordshire. The CERTs are on standby in the event of a major incident occurring within the Diocese and work closely with the Emergency Planning Units of the local authorities in both counties.

With Deaneries and Parishes
The Council works with Deanery Synods, Chapters and Parishes, giving presentations, leading discussion and encouraging social action.

In Partnership
The CSR is involved with the statutory sector and voluntary agencies and is keen to work in partnership at all levels.

Good contacts have been established with many local organisations.

Provision of Resource Material
A wide range of material on social, economic and political issues is available from the Gateway Office.
