Celebrate Africa in the Hereford Diocese - 6th October
Leominster Priory will be the venue for the first ever celebration of Africa to take place in the Hereford Diocese. The day’s free activities include an African Drum Workshop, resident Farm Africa goats and being entertained by a steel band from the Queen Elizabeth School, Bromyard.
There will also be dancing by children from local schools and a selection of DVDs showing some of the work being undertaken by various projects working in partnership with regions in Africa. A series of exhibitions and displays will show local links with Africa and a face painter will be on hand to create a series of wild African animals on the smaller visitors!
At 12 noon, the Forbury will begin serving a special African Fairtrade lunch* and the highlight of the day begins at 2pm, with an African Eucharist presided over by the Bishop of Ludlow. Local school children will parade with banners portraying the flags of the African nations, painted by the children themselves, and the guest preacher is Revd Canon Dr Chad Gandiya, from USPG.

"An African's Blood" - 8th October, 7.30pm
Presented by Historia Theatre Company in the Folly Theatre, Folly Lane, Hereford.
The play tells the story of the twenty year struggle to abolish the slave trade from 1787 to 1807; yet it starts and finishes with the cries of Mariatu Sesay, a modern day slave. “We are lured into the world of the late eighteenth century as slaver John Newton (later an abolitionist and author of Amazing Grace) orders his next cargo of ironware, calico and ale to sell on the West African coast in exchange for a cargo of slaves.”
Tickets cost £8 to include a complimentary glass of wine or fruit juice.
To book tickets contact the theatre Box Office on 01432 845302.
