INFORMATION ABOUT FRAMEWORK FOR FAITH

Framework for Faith is designed for groups of up to about a dozen people under the guidance of a Group Leader. Most Framework units are divided into eight sessions. Each session is designed to take approximately two hours, including a break for refreshments. Groups generally meet in people's homes, either once a week or fortnight.

Each unit has its own workbook, written by an experienced person with a good knowledge of their subject. It is accompanied by a resource box containing additional material and a wide range of books to suit all tastes. The resource box is continually being revised and updated.

Framework for Faith is not expensive. The initial, one off cost, is £10.00 per person which helps to keep the resource boxes up to date. The cost of individual units depends upon whether the duplicating is done centrally or locally. Most of the units are provided on CD ROM, at a nominal charge, in 'pdf' format for duplicating locally. Central duplicating costs are calculated on a job by job basis - please contact the MDT Administrator for our current charges.

Leaflets advertising Framework for Faith are available for download (click here)or contact the Training Department for more information and notes on how to start a group in your area.

THE FRAMEWORK FOR FAITH UNITS

Introductory Unit 1-An Approach to the Bible is a good starter unit for Framework For Faith because it is short (3 Sessions) and free for groups to try before embarking on the main studies. This unit does not count towards the Marches Certificate in Christian Studies. The Lay Training Officer is prepared to help lead all or part of this study if appropriate.

Author: Meriel Oliver

Unit 1 Introducing the Old Testament will help people appreciate the Old Testament as the Jewish Scriptures and to understand their significance for Christians.
Author: Gill Sumner

Unit 2 Introducing the New Testament
will encourage people to recognise the Good News of Jesus Christ in the New Testament and its significance for the Church's witness in the world.
Author: Dick France

Unit 3 The Spread of the Gospel will help people to understand the belief of the early Church, how the message spread so rapidly and introduce them to some of the key figures of the time and their impact on us.
Author: John Tiller

Unit 4 The Church since the Reformation
is designed to provide an introduction to how the main church traditions in Britain today have developed since the time of the Reformation. It is a chance to look at how Anglo-Catholic and Evangelical Anglican, Free Church and Roman Catholic dissenter, Congregationalist, Presbyterian, Quaker, Baptist, Methodist, Salvationist and Pentecostals came to differ from one another.
Authors: Margaret Goodrich and John Tiller

Unit 5 Christian Worship examines what is meant by Worship and explores various ways in which Christians in the Church of England worship together. The structure of this unit is slightly different from the others and includes practical activities and a video.
Authors: Mary-lou Toop and Peter Massey

Unit 6 Christian Ethics is complete revised. Written by a team of four under the guidance of Bishop John Saxbee, the Unit will help people to develop a basis for making ethical decisions and then offers a number of case studies on which group members may practice their new found skills.
Authors: Jackie Boys, Graham Earney, Peter Massey and John Saxbee

Unit 7 My Neighbour's Faith is designed to help Christians (and others) understand other world faiths and a possible approach to them. In the main the sessions are prepared by people of the particular faith involved under the general editorship of Gerald Restall.

Unit 8 In Deeper celebrates and informs about the rich diversity of spiritual traditions within the Christian Faith including Celtic, Ignatian, Contemplation, Youth, Taizé and much more. It is practical and experiential.

Authors: Henry Verwey, Ann Corby, Paul & Ann Towner, Sue Strutt,

Lynn Money and Peter Massey

THE MARCHES CERTIFICATE IN CHRISTIAN STUDIES

An additional feature of Framework For Faith is the option to work for the Marches Certificate in Christian Studies. The certificate will be awarded to group members who have completed any six main units and have submitted a project inspired by each unit for assessment. The project can take a variety of forms. Examples are: compiling a scrap book, producing taped interviews on a chosen topic, writing a book review as well as the more traditional essay; planning a time of worship.

Your Group Leader or the Lay Training Officer will help with the selection and preparation of a suitable project; the more imaginative the study the better. Certificates are presented in the home church of the individual students.
