Good Friday Walk of Witness

The Death and Resurrection of Jesus is crucial to the Christian Faith. Since early times, Christians have pondered these as they follow the journey of Jesus' last week in Jerusalem. In the Holy Week Worship, the drama unfolds from Palm Sunday, through the events of Thursday, to Friday with its apparent end on Golgotha, Skull Hill, just outside Jerusalem.

As each year many members of the differing congregations join in this event, this year braving slightly inclement weather, and showing the Christian Faith is still going strong and strongly supported within our community.

Each year the Walk of Witness is held as part of a programme of worship for the Holy Week, this year starting at the Baptist Church in Etnam Street, through the Town Centre of Leominster culminating at the Priory Church with a Hunger Lunch. This event is organised by Churches Together, and comprises members of the differing Churches and faiths in the town.

During the Walk a Children's Workshop was held at the Priory.

Reading at Somerfield store

At the Somerfield supermarket, Barclays Bank and Corn Square there was a reading, hymn and contemplation time. We again were fortunate to have a band to provide musical accompaniment for the hymns.

West Street procession

As the procession wound it's way to the next stop in Broad Street, the support was really emphasised as the whole road by the Library off West Street was occupied by the event!

Contemplation on Broad Street

On Broad Street, the main thoroughfare through the Town members of the walk were accompanied by the Band with the local shoppers stopping to enjoy the songs and prayers.

The Band plays at Corn Square

The band plays in Corn Square, the last stop of the Walk for Witness before arriving at the Priory. The Walk co-incides with the popular Market day in the Square, providing a focus for the community as the two events combine on this auspicious day.

Hunger Lunch in the Priory

The Hunger Lunch in the Priory provides the opportunity for reflection on the success of the event with a bowl of hot soup and buffet. The children from the mornings workshop join with those from the walk in the warmth of the Church. A very successful and enjoyable event, despite the rain!
