Visitations

The Rural Dean (acting on behalf of the Archdeacon) visited the Wye Dore Parishes on the 13th October 2010 and was able to meet with the churchwardens late in the afternoon. The day went very well and the Rural Dean was grateful for the very kind reception he received. The next is on 13.10.10 to the Wye Dore Parishes. Earlier in the year the Archdeacon conducted a visitation what was then the Kingstone Group of Parishes as a prelude to the collation and installation of Revd Clare Dyson as Rector of that Benefice (previously Priest-in-Charge) which was renamed the Cagebrook Parishes on 1st October 2010. Future 'triennial' visitations to be announced.

Swearing-in of Churchwardens

The Archdeacon visited on Midsummer's Day evening, 21st June 2011, for the annual swearing-in of churchwardens in the Deanery at St Clydog's Clodock. It was well attended and the service was superbly accompanied on the organ by a late replacement, the incumbent Revd Nicholas Lowton. Special thanks are due to the host churchwardens, Laurianne McKenzie and Beryl Watkins, and to all who organised and provided the excellent refreshments afterwards. Sadly the Archdeacon elected not to use what must be one of the highest pulpits in the Diocese!

South Herefordshire Taize Prayer

Headed up by our retired colleague Canon John Armson (of Rowlstone), this first took place in October 2009, and has been held four times a year since. The most recent saw a return to the wonderful Bryn Barn between Dulas and Longtown, on Friday 17th June, kind courtesy of Ruth Pritchard. 25 to 30 attended, accompanied by a nest of fledglings in one of the eaves! Human singers and musicians wishing to take part are especially welcome. The next is to be held at 8.00pm on Friday 30th September 2011 in Dore Abbey, and as is now traditional one will be held on New Year's Eve at 4pm in Ewyas Harold Memorial Hall.

Confirmation Service 2011

The next in the Deanery will be held on Sunday 6th November 2011 at 5.30pm in Dore Abbey. Anyone in the Deanery interested in being confirmed should contact the incumbent of their parish as soon as possible in order to be able to participate in the course of preparation. The Assistant Bishop of the Diocese, the Rt Revd Michael Bourke, will be presiding and confirming candidates.

Deanery Synod

On 19th October 2011 at St Michael's Church Hall in Ewyas Harold, we have the next meeting of Deanery Synod, at which Preb Kay Garlick, Chaplain in the Cathedral and recently appointed one of the Chaplains to HM The Queen, will be speaking. Kay used to be one of our neighbours at Much Birch and has also been Chairperson of General Synod's Business Committee.

Deanery Synod: Weds 19 October 2011 (Ewyas Harold). (Tea/coffee available from 7pm.)
