EDEN SEMINAR 2: SCHOOLS: Suggestions for implementation in 2011- 12
for the Diocese of Hereford
1. Involvement of the Diocesan Board of Education and the two local authorities in the Diocese, Herefordshire and Shropshire, to review with them how best to proceed so that all schools can potentially be involved.
2. All Church Schools to have an email copy of this report, and, with the agreement of the local authorities concerned, all other schools in the Diocesan boundary as well.
3. Where school partnerships already exist, development and strengthening of Food, Farming and Environment agenda; involvement of neighbouring schools and wider community where possible.
4. Awareness meetings for teachers (and pupils) visiting
Tanzania in 2011 so that they can take forward the Food, Farming and Environment agenda during their visit.
5. Encouragement for schools to familiarise parents and local communities about the benefits of permaculture and to start/develop plots/gardens/allotments on a permaculture basis.
6. Recording and evaluation as in 1 above.
for Joint Endeavours
1. Exchange of information and shared evaluation of the means for taking forward Food, Farming and environment issues among Diocesan and local authority officers.
2. Expansion of contacts at local authority level to complement those already established in this Diocese and in Tanzania.
3. Shared teacher exchanges; development of common curriculum; development of shared materials, including photos, film clips, video interviews etc; setting up of plots to cultivate plants relevant to their own climate and cooking them properly; review of diets and illnesses in each country.
4. Shared preparation, if conditions allow it, for visits and exchanges.
5. Sharing of results through exchange visits, photos, film clips and school curriculum development.
6. Sharing of findings and development of agreed ways of moving forward.

1. Invitation to all Diocesan Education Authorities to become involved in the Food, Farming and Environment Project..
2. Email copies of this report to be made available to Dioceses and local authorities for dissemination.
3. Where school partnerships already exist, development and strengthening of Food, Farming and Environment agenda, involvement of neighbouring schools and wider community here possible.
4. Meetings of local teachers to review local food scarcity and security issues before visits.
5. Support for schools which demonstrate that they are capable of organising, in conjunction with local authority officials, one or two day courses on permaculture for their local communities.
6. Recording and evaluation as in 1 above.
