The Missioner for Environment, Agriculture & Rural Affairs

Hereford Diocese, in common with other Anglican dioceses, is developing a carbon-reduction strategy in response to global warming and peak oil. It realised that it needed a dedicated member of staff to drive the process and in 2009 the remit of the Chaplain for Agriculture & Rural Life was extended to embrace these specific environmental goals. Because the new post involves developing a theological response to global warming/peak oil the title "Missioner" was chosen to convey the sense that it is an integral part of the church's mission to value and care for God's creation. Hence the Chaplain for Agriculture & Rural Life is now re-titled the Missioner for Environment, Agriculture & Rural Life.
