Diocesan Mission Funding

There are currently two strands of mission funding available directly from the Diocese of Hereford. The Partnership Fund and the Mission Fund. Details of the Partnership fund can be found below and the criteria for the new Mission Fund will appear on this page shortly.

The current Diocesan Funding panel is as follows: Bishop Alistair Magowan - Bishop of Ludlow, Wendy Coombey - Community Funding and Partnership Officer, Philip Sell - Diocesan Director of Education, Caroline Pascoe - Lay Training Officer, Gordon Powell - Diocesan Finance Secretar, Ann Corby - Parish representative, John Theaker - clergy. They meet four times a year to consider applications to the funds. The date of the next meeting is 7th February.

Mission Fund

Mission Grants are available from Hereford Diocese in 2012 and 2013 to support local Christian, mission focused, initiatives. This fund is particularly aimed at new projects and initiatives. It seeks to spread awards across the Diocese in line with the Five Marks of Mission, especially with regard to marks 1 and 2.
The funding panel meets to consider applications in February, May, September and November each year and you may be asked to come to the meeting to give a short presentation.

What will it fund?
Any project or initiative that has a clear mission focus. This could be any project encouraging involvement of those on the edges of church, with an emphasis on numerical growth and new initiatives for growing discipleship.

Who can apply?
The fund exists to support Christian Mission initiatives and is particularly for deaneries, parishes, ecumenical groups and church schools. Anglican parishes must be supported by their PCC and incumbent and ideally will have, or will be working towards, a Mission Action Plan locally.

How much for?
Applications should demonstrate that other sources of funding have also been raised and it would not normally be for 100% of the project cost. As this fund aims to support as many initiatives across the Diocese as possible awards will typically range between £100 and £3000.

How to apply
For an expression of interest form and for an initial discussion please call Joanne Gibbon in the Ludlow Diocesan Office on 01584 871089. The full fund guidelines are available under Community Partnership and Funding on the Diocesan website.

Diocesan Partnership Fund

Can the Diocesan Partnership Fund help?

If your parish has identified a project it would like to develop in partnership with the wider community, or would like to expand a project that has worked well, then this could be the fund for you. Grants are available up to £2,000. The funds come from The Archbishops Council, and we have been able to use it to fund a variety of mission projects.

Cradley Festival of Angels

young peoples workshop, an art lecture and a talent competition.
£1892 awarded to cover costs of hosting the event.

The Diocese of Hereford encourages parishes to develop creative and innovative ways to explore new outreach ideas and to forge closer links with their communities and we have found that a little money can go a long way. Just a few hundred pounds can help PCCs develop worthwhile and far reaching projects that give them and their communities a real boost.

Sometimes our grant is just the beginning of something bigger and we will consider applications for pilot projects and feasibility studies with our grant forming part of an overall funding package. Projects that focus on work with young people are especially welcome.

Full guidelines and an application form can be downloaded from the link below. A Funds panel sits four times a year to consider applications and you will be given a speedy response to your application.

These are guidelines only, if you have an innovative idea please feel free to discuss it with Joanne Gibbon on 01584 871089.by email: j.gibbon@hereford.anglican.org. She will be happy to discuss your project and if you are thinking of embarking on a larger church project requiring more substantial funding she will be able to discuss other possible funding sources with you.

We want your projects to succeed so please let us know about them.
