'Crossing the Threshold' - 19th November 2009

A community development approach to the use of Church Buildings

This is the first in the national 'Crossing the Threshold' programme, a series of events aimed atConference illustrationhelping dioceses and parishes get the best from their buildings for wider community use. The programme marks the fifth anniversary of the launch of the Church of England's national strategy document, Building Faith in Our Future, and will share experiences from around the dioceses, and from experts within and outside the Church.

The day, in Hereford, will be dedicated to sharing best practice in the use of church buildings, and looking at examples of how successful projects are working in and for their communities already. We will be launching a specially commissioned DVD and Toolkit, produced in partnership with the Herefordshire Council and Shropshire RCC, which you can then take away with you.

Sue Rowe from Sue Rowe Associates will be presenting an updated evaluation of the 'Rural Churches in Community Service' project, 9 years on - come and find out how successful church projects really are. Diana Evans, English Heritage Head of Policy for Church Buildings will be outlining English Heritage Policy on the use of church buildings and the support they are able to give. David Rayner, from the Department of Communities and Local Government, will be speaking on the national document 'Realising the Potential', highlighting the benefits of closer working partnerships between the Church and government at all levels The whole cost of the day will be £40, with some concessions available.
