Looking At Your Noticeboard

Niticeboard badwelcome signA noticeboard is often the first contact people have with a church so answering all the questions is important. You need to give it plenty of thought and not just assume that a quick touching up is enough.

What does a board badly in need of a new coat of paint sayout a church?
Talk about it among yourselves and start looking more carefully at other churches noticeboards.

It will cost money but if the right decision is made it will last a few years and will be money well spent

There is some funding available which you will need to match with time or money. Contact Wendy Coombey/Joanne Gibbon on 01584 871089

Notice Boards - Some Things to Think AboutNoticeboard

  1. What colour is it painted? Does it have to be black or are we the church of the 21st Century despite the age of our building.
  2. What print style is used? Does it have to be gold gothic or can we use a 21st century script?
  3. Which is the piece of information that stands out? Think about the board or stand in front of it. What would a passing stranger's eye light upon.
  4. What information do we want to stand out? Is it the service times? Is it a contact for weddings and baptisms? Is it the name of the vicar? Something about the historic building? Directions to the noticeboard inside the church for more detailed information.
  5. Could it be sited better/moved? If we moved it to the other side of the churchyard would it be seen by passing walkers/motorists?
  6. Could we divide it into permanent and changing information? Sometimes a board can fill two intentions, half permanent info that will not be changed for years, while a part may be devoted to advertising the harvest supper. Would that suit us? Or do we want a single board with permanent information only?
  7. Will our service pattern fit on the board. If not what are we going to do to impart this important information. Could we direct people to the church porch/back of the building ... or should we be looking at our service pattern? If it is too complicated for the board is it too complicated for the occasional churchgoer?
  8. How many names do we want on the board? Do we need a name at all? We want our board to last several years and people move on. Could we use a contact number and directions to more detailed information elsewhere?
  9. How do we get our board to look really welcoming, after all we are a very welcoming group of people aren't we .... ???
  10. How we have answered the questions where does the money come from and who is going to make our new board? Who will get some estimates and who will contact the Parish and Community Funding Officer? And do we need to speak to someone about our listed building. And do we need a faculty. There are so many questions left!!!
