DEVELOPING A PARISH WEBSITE
Have a good look at other parish websites especially in parishes that you know.
Design is often a personal thing, what one person thinks looks great, another hates.
Have a brainstorm at PCC or parish website small group about what information you want on the site and make a list:
- Contact details for parish people
- Times of Sunday Services
- A history of the church
- Different groups in the parish/es
- Flower Festival and other events & fundraisers
- Parish diary
- Information about Baptism and marriage
- The list can be as long or as short as you like
- Keep it as simple as possible
- Always use links to other sites rather than reinventing the wheel
- Think of an overall style for each page....this can just be a coloured banner across the top of each it does not have to specially designed by an expert (unless you have one in the parish in which case enlist their help)
- It is an opportunity to involve young people in...they will know far more about websites than you can ever aspire to!
- Go to Church Edit or any other company you know of, or has been recommended, and find out if they want your business and what they will charge. Church Edit has been to the Diocese and did 2 training sessions. If there is enough demand we can invite them back again for another session on how to develop your website. They are also very reasonably priced and most important of all to maintain.
