The NEWSpaper - A Tool For Mission
The NEWSpaper is produced by the Diocese on a quarterly basis for distribution in the parishes and beyond. It is a means of communication within our churches, but is also a tool for evangelism beyond the church door.
The NEWSpaper is 24 pages, all of them in colour, of events, issues and parish news from all over the area we serve, Herefordshire, South Shropshire and parts of Powys and Worcestershire.
The NEWSpaper relies on YOU to send in information, pictures, news stories etc from your area.
The NEWSpaper is a sharing of ideas between us all; what works in your church could be used elsewhere, what is a regular event at one end of the diocese could be a revolutionary new idea at the other end or any point in between.
The NEWSpaper costs just £8 per issue per parish. How cheap do you want mission to be?

10 ways to use The NEWSpaper more effectively
- Give parishioners 3 copies, one for themselves and one each for their next door neighbours.
- Will the local shop/post office display it?
- Will the local garage display it?
- What about the doctor's surgery ... we all read all sorts of things there!
- Can you deliver it with the church magazine?
- Is it handed out positively to people?
- What about the local school, particularly if it is featured - would they like a copy for every family?
- Do you use the display stand or have a notice telling people it is free for visitors as well as parishioners?
- Do you let the editor know what is happening in your church?
- HOW MANY COPIES DO YOU NEED NOW?
NEWSpaper in your church
Does the NEWSpaper arrive in your church for the Sunday immediately following the Thursday distribution date? If not then ask questions about the distribution; it should be there on time.
On arrival, is it left in a heap at the back of the church somewhere? Is it easier to do nothing with it than something? What message are you conveying to people?
Is it offered out positively to everyone who comes that week and the two or three following? We know many people only come to church every few weeks or to one particular service.
Does it go to those who have the church magazine delivered to their homes? People contribute to and want to read what goes on in their church even if they do not attend.
Do you have enough copies? Think carefully before you answer and read 10 ways to use The NEWSpaper more effectively before doing so!
